Gorey, Edward (St. John)
(22 feb. 1925, Chicago, Ill., EE.UU.–15 abr. 2000, Hyannis, Mass.).

Escritor, ilustrador y diseñador estadounidense. Estudió en la Universidad de Harvard y trabajó como ilustrador antes de publicar su primer libro infantil, The Doubtful Guest [El invitado dudoso], en 1957. En este libro y en otros posteriores, como The Hapless Child [El niño desafortunado] (1961) y The Gashlycrumb Tinies [Las insignificantes criatórridas] (1962), sus versos socarrones y absurdos y su prosa paródica del estilo victoriano, acompañan los dibujos a lápiz y tinta de personajes de rostros inexpresivos y pequeños ojos brillantes, vestidos a la moda edwardiana, cuyo comportamiento ampuloso contrasta con sucesos ridículos, con frecuencia macabros. Su obra ha sido antologada en Amphigorey (1972), Amphigorey too [Amphigorey de nuevo] (1975) y Amphigorey también (1983).
